January 17, 2021 Worship Outline

Call to Worship
We are gathered to worship our God
Send your Spirit upon us!
We come from many places, with many burdens,
Send your Spirit upon us!
We turn our hearts to you, O God.
Send your Spirit upon us, and make us your beloved family!

Opening Prayer

Song of Worship On Jordan’s Bank the Baptist’s Cry Hymnal #133
On Jordan's bank the Baptist's cry
announces that the Lord is nigh.
Awake and harken, for he brings
glad tidings of the King of kings!

Let every heart
be cleansed from sin:
make straight the way
for God within,
and so prepare to be the home
Where such a mighty guest
may come

For you are our salvation, Lord
Our refuge and our great reward
Without your grace we waste away
Like flowers that wither and decay

To heal the sick,
stretch out your hand
And make the fallen sinner stand
Shine out and let your light restore
Earth’s own true loveliness
once more

To you, O Christ all praises be
Whose advent sets your people free
Whom with the Father we adore
And Holy Spirit evermore!

Passing of the Peace

Scripture- Mark 1:4-11

Sermon- “The Voice”

Sermon Question:
What identities have taken primary place in your life? How will you let God’s voice speak the identity of Beloved Child of God into your life more fully this week?

Prayer & Lord’s Prayer (pray for Barbara Gaskins for hip surgery)
Prayer of confession
We are wanderers, those who often believe we know the right direction
Whether or not we like it, we have a tendency to be arrogant and stray away from God’s love.
We seek adventure that leads to darkness; fear becomes an enticement
Our television shows promote fear and alienation.
Our newsfeeds shriek with stories of horror, injustice, division
Lord, we need your healing presence
God has always offered light to us. This is nothing new, but it is renewing.
Lord, we need your light.
God offers a relationship with God’s self that is healing.
Lord, we need to be in relationship with you.
God offers us hope and asks us to be reconcilers and peacemakers
Lord, we need that hope in our spirits.
Come, let us trust in the voice of the Lord. God will abundantly love and forgive us.
Lord, come to us, speak your words of love to us, and help us to come to you for healing, forgiveness, and renewal.
Praise be to God who always is with us.
Thanks be to God for all mercies and blessings. AMEN.

Sending Song You Never Let Go
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death
Your perfect love is casting out fear
And even when I'm caught in the middle of the storms of this life
I won't turn back I know You are near

And I will fear no evil
For my God is with me
And if my God is with me
Whom then shall I fear?
Whom then shall I fear?

Oh no, You never let go

Through the calm and through the storm
Oh no, You never let go
In every high and every low
Oh no, You never let go
Lord, You never let go of me

And I can see a light that is coming for the heart that holds on
A glorious light beyond all compare
And there will be an end to these troubles
But until that day comes
We'll live to know You here on the earth

Benediction
As you go from this place, hear and heed the voice of the Lord. Hear and heed God say to you: you are my beloved child in whom I am well pleased. Let this identity, beloved child of God, transform your purpose every day. Go in peace to love and serve the Lord, for God’s glory and neighbor’s good.
